The Project

This project involved the renovation of the AASF Interim Hangar building located at the Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort, KY. The building was converted into a fitness center featuring new men’s and women’s locker rooms, a storage room, a mechanical and electrical room, a communications closet, and a 2nd level open mezzanine for exercise activities. The open gym contains areas designated for specific athletic activities such as a 3 ½-inch raised floor cardio equipment area, a CrossFit training area, a fitness equipment area, a free weights area, and an artificial turf sprint track. Exterior renovations included a new infill wall at the existing large operable wall that was demolished and two new doors with 12 windows. New finishes included rubber athletic flooring in the open gym and mezzanine, porcelain tile flooring in the locker rooms, painted impact-resistant gypsum wallboard, and 3-inch vinyl-faced insulation installed in all areas over the existing vinyl faced insulation. Other improvements included new LED lighting throughout the facility and a new HVAC system.
